Annikki Poetry Festival

Annikki Poetry Festival in Tampere, Finland

2020 Annikki Poetry Festival was cancelled as a public event because of the coronavirus situation. Even though the festival was cancelled, the event happened without an audience, with a condensed programme, and streamed live and free online. The live video stream was sent from the atmospheric Annikki Wooden Quarter on the original date of the event, 6 June 2020. The live stream was a succes and it reached a total of aprox. 6000 views. The stream was shot by professionals using several cameras. See the compilation video of the live stream.

The performers in the Annikki Poetry Festival live stream were Jonimatti Joutsijärvi, Monika Fagerholm, Happonen, Paleface & Viljanen, Elsa Tölli, Hannu Mäkelä, Adikia and Alexandra Salmela & J.P. Laitinen.

In connection with the live stream, we saw specially-made video greetings by the Annikki Poetry Festival’s cancelled foreign and Finnish performers: Zena Edwards (UK), Flying Words Project (USA), Niillas Holmberg (FI) and Sanni Purhonen (FI). The unveiling of the mural featuring poetry by Mirkka Rekola was also be included in the live stream.

Since 2003

In 2003, the residents of Annikki Wooden Quarter in Tampere founded a poetry event in their yard. Since then, Annikki Poetry Festival has developed into one of Finland’s most significant poetry events and original cultural festivals. It has also spawned Annikki OFF, a three-day series of events around the city. Annikki Poetry Festival is organised by volunteers every two years. The next festival will be held on June 2022.
